Super Bowl Article #1 – Published Jan. 28, 2025:

Written by Jackson Gagne (The Kids Kickoff)

The stage is set: The Philadelphia Eagles will play the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX in the Caesar’s Superdome on February 9, 2025. This Super Bowl is not only a redemption story, but a shot at history.

Since 1967 – the start of the Super Bowl era – no team in the NFL has ever “threepeated.” Several  teams have “twopeated.” The New England Patriots did it when they won their second title in 2004 and the San Francisco 49ers were repeat champions in  1989. If the Chiefs win Super Bowl LIX, they will solidify their dynasty in NFL history. All they have to do is win.

In their way is Philly’s Saquon Barkley, who has had, statistically, one of the best seasons for any  running back. Barkley had over 2,000 rushing yards, 32 rushing touchdowns, and 2 receiving touchdowns in the regular season. Not only is he in the race for MVP, but he is also likely to be in the race for Super Bowl MVP. All he has to do is perform as well as he did against every other team this season, including the Baltimore Ravens. He had 23 carries for 107 yards and a touchdown versus their number one rushing defense in the league.

Jalen Hurts had around 3,000 passing yards and a touchdown to interception ratio of 18:5. Patrick Mahomes had close to 4,000 yards passing and a ratio of 26:11. Just based on those numbers, Mahomes is dramatically better. But Hurts hasn’t needed to throw the ball as often as Mahomes thanks to the Eagles running game. And even with Barkley in his offense, Hurts still managed 630 yards on the ground and 14 touchdowns in the regular season while Mahomes had just 307 and 2 touchdowns.

The Chiefs 9th-ranked defense is undeniably one of the best in the league. he Eagles, though, have the best defense in the league. I expect several punts and maybe a few forced turnovers in this game considering the outstanding defensive units of both teams.

My prediction is that the Eagles will beat the Chiefs 30-20, with the game getting out of reach for the Chiefs by late in the third quarter. There will be one interception by each team, and Saquon will rush for at least 100 yards and two touchdowns. Patrick Mahomes will have a 300 yards passing with one rushing touchdown. Devonta Smith will have a game-sealing touchdown late in the third quarter, picking up over 30 yards on one catch.

I think it will be a great game. The first half will have many touchdowns and turnovers, and the third quarter will seal it for the Eagles, ending the Chiefs historic run. Go Birds!
